The Transandes
Challenge 2011 starting point will Panguipulli’s town,
a quiet little city on the shore of the Panguipulli’s
lake. It is located 800 kilometers from Santiago, the capital
of Chile, at 105 km from Valdivia, the capital of the Region,
and at 130 km from Temuco, the capital of the neighboring
region of Araucania.
To reach to Panguipulli by air is recommended
arrive to Temuco´s airport located at 130 kilometers.
There are several daily flights from
Santiago’s International Airport to Temuco’s
airport
By land:
To reach Panguipulli from Santiago is necessary to take Route
5 (Panamerican Highway) to the south. At 770km south of
Santiago is located the Lanco intersection, where you’ll
have to take the way to Panguipulli.
If you come from Argentina, you
should arrive to San Martín de Los Andes, then you’ll
have to go to Huahum International Pass, after the pass
you should take the ferry on Puerto Pirihueico which will
leave you Puerto Fuy, then you’ll have to follow the
international road to Panguipulli.
Return:
The Transandes Challenge 2011 will end in the touristic town
of Pucon, which is located at 780 kilometers south of Santiago
and at 112 km from Temuco, the capital of the Araucanía
Region. Pucón has an airport, however, we recommend
return to Santiago from Temuco’s airport.
By land:
To reach Santiago from Pucon you have to go to Villarrica,
and from there taking the way to Freire, in Freire take
Route 5 to the north, Santiago is located at 700 km from
Freire.
If you go to Argentina, you should
use the Mamuil Malal (also known as Tromen Pass), at north
of Junin de los Andes.
